For nearly 40 years, Free State Studios has been a pioneer in cable programming. Our local programming, available on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6, KTKA in Topeka and various affiliates, offers award-winning news, sports, weather and local shows, that directly impacts the residents of our community with information that can’t be found anywhere else.
Free State Studios also provides video production services to commercial and corporate clients as well as servicing the sales and marketing staff at Sunflower Broadband in Lawrence, Kansas, and KTKA in Topeka, Kansas.
Our talented staff produces over 300 hours of original programming yearly. Local programming includes River City Weekly, a lifestyle program featuring human-interest topics; Home & Away, which tours interesting local homes and gardens and shares travel ideas; Jayni’s Kitchen, a weekly cooking show in which cookbook author Jayni Carey prepares everything from simple to gourmet dishes; Turnpike, which features interviews and performances of local, national and international musicians; 1 on 1 Trivia, a game show that quizzes contestants on a wide range of topics; and The Drive, our nationally syndicated sports show which features no-holds-barred unscripted sports talk from four of the area’s most vocal sports pundits.
Free State Studios also provides the technical staff to support Lawrence’s 6News for their live 6 and 10 newscasts, Headline News Local Edition, Morning Weather Updates, Election Coverage and breaking news and weather segments.
Our remote production crew works with 6Sports to showcase the High School Game of the Week as well as bring live coverage of KU women’s basketball and replays of KU football and KU men’s basketball to Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.
Free State Studios also helps to produce some of the award winning films put together by SeNo Reality Pictures.
Through the creative initiative and hard work of our staff, behind and in front of the camera, 6News and Free State Studios have garnered numerous regional and national awards, including a regional Emmy, several national Community Spirit awards, Telly Awards and Cable Ace awards.
